Hi All,
I am looking to buy a D2 and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to look for or things to test when looking at Td5 automatic transmissions?
I have read a number of posts here at AULRO describing auto failure at around 200k - I would like to avoid the 4k replacement cost!
I have read about the auto stall test - is this worth doing?
I have had a pre-purchase inspection done through the local ARB, however they didn't seem that familiar with LR's (despite saying that they had a LR familiar mechanic) - they weren't even aware of the oil pump bolt issue!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would be happy to buy the rave cd however I don't imagine I would get it before I have to make the decision to buy.
Does anyone know if there is an electronic version?
I think a stall test only shows you he condition of the torque converter. I'm not sure I'd let anyone do that when looking at a car I was selling, it's not especially friendly to the vehicle as the procedure says don't repeat for 30 minutes....
the most important thing with the autos is the service history and the condition of the oil
to check the oil in the auto you need to have at it with spanners, Not sure that doing so would be appreciated, if it is, the oil condition will give you a better indication than a stall test.
but..
for the stall test, lock it in high range, engage CDL if equipped, pull the hand brake on hard stand on the brakes and nail the loud pedal in drive.
Over 2800 on stock tune is something slipping and not holding the engine back or an over stock engine fuelling.
under 26-2700 is an engine not performing or something sticking up the TC.
