clean well, degrease, prime the threads and the bolts with loctite 7140 (from memory its the cleaner and primer) then use loctite 262, let it setup for 24 hours before you put oil in the diff.
Well I thought I'd try to extract the remainder of the bolt from the crownwheel and carrier. Imagine my surprise to not only have it spin freely, but to find that all the other bolts were only just more than finger tight! So I'm glad that I've pulled it apart and found the problem. Definitely going to pull the front diff and replace the bolts in it too. Probably worth retensioning all the other bolts too.

Thanks Dave. Got a sample bolt out so will chase new ones tomorrow. Hoping to find Grade 10. I assume spring washers will be suitable?

Brian's Retirement Sale is my business. I sell machine shop supplies, plus taps and dies of many systems including obsolete, hard to find, "no longer available".
PM me the size and pitch of whatever tap you need. Always quote the pitch. There are as many as five pitches in some diameters.
Quoting the pitch removes the possibility of being sent the wrong one. Buy some screw pitch gauges and learn to use them.
High Speed Steel taps are more accurate, last longer than carbon steel or chrome tungsten hand taps which are really for the hardware & tool shop trade.
Taps come in three "leads". Taper taps have a 7 thread lead, intermediate taps have a 5 thread lead, bottoming taps have a 2 thread lead. A taper tap is rarely used in machine shop work or in machine tapping. Intermediate lead will do most work except tapping to the bottom of a blind hole.
