Std height springs - Kings or Dobinsons?

I've got a set of Koni Heavy Tracks on order from Paddocks, and will be replacing the springs when I fit the new shocks.

There is bit of conflicting advice regarding which springs to go with. I know a lot of people on the forum recommend the Dobinsons +20mm over the Kings springs. I had a very quick chat with Suspension Stuff and the person I spoke to said they recommend the Kings springs due to the fact they use better grade of steel and have a longer warranty, otherwise there is little to pick between the two.

Before I click submit on the order, I was interested in why people choose the Dobinsons springs?

    cheers
    Paul

When I bought my standard Dobs +20mm Sus stuff was recommending Dobs over Kings! I replaced springs only with Dobs very happy better ride than before. Lifted to upper figure quoted in rave.
Funny enough as soon as I fitted new springs front driveshaft unis started churping.

    Regards

Thanks for that. I found some older posts which seem to indicate the Kings rear springs droop pretty badly when carrying a load and the "solution" is to fit +50mm HD rears. Looks like the Dobinsons are the go.

I heard the same about the kings Paul

I have had dobinsons on my past 2 discos and have had no problems, with ride or sagging

I would definitely go dobinsons again

And then when you have HD +50mm rears, they don't move at all
Rides nicely with 200kg in the back though

I have Dobinsons. They are Linear rate +45mm but they gave me about +65mm due to the already sagged standard springs.

Apparently Std LR spring rate is 150lbs and the Std Dobinsons are 190lbs then the HD +45mm Dobinsons are 250lbs.

    Happy Days.

Thanks Joel, that's really helpful. The back doesn't droop that much with our typical camping load and stock so the standard height dobinsons will probably be ok. If droop is too much of a problem I'll retro fit SLS.

The fronts are the main issue - they are about 10-15mm under minimum and the bump stops have flogged out since I put the bullbar on.

    Cheers

I have just been searching around the Dobinson's site but I cant find those spring rates anywhere. I thought it was in the Dobsons book at the Dobinsons dealer up here.

    Still looking though.

I only got the fronts because I'm working on rebuilding the SLS. It currently has coils fitted by the previous owner.

    Happy Days
