    What are the odds?

    So you think you're having a bad day?
    The following happened in a 10 minute time frame.

    I just finish fitting the rebuilt head to the new addition TD5 D2 auto. I had a good check of everything before starting and turned the key, all good, primed and away it went

    Engine happily idling away and plug in the Nanocom just to check the whole show was doing as good as it sounded.
    Oil light off, sensors all reading injector balances ok ,etc ....great. Get out and top the coolant off then climb underneath to check and top up the Trans fluid.
    Just get the ATF level right and I hear a "pop" and see a growing torrent of ATF heading towards me and down the freshly cleaned drive way.... scramble out from under the car and duck the spraying ATF (failed you cant duck spraying ATF)
    Thinks to self: some inappropriate words and realise I have been stung by the not uncommon trans cooler hose failure now moving as fast as I can around car to shut it down and note the engine is running rough as I go.....thinks: must be something to do with ATF now working its way around the belt drives and happily spraying upward as well as down......reach for key to find motor stops by itself before I turn the key.

    Find and use enough rags to stop the ATF from spreading too far and break out the degreaser to deal with the mess and change out hose for a spare I fortunately had.
    Get back in car and turn key, engine starts and promptly greets me with a knocking sound which turns into a banging within 5 seconds and I see the oil pressure light on....under the car and off with the sump......surprise oil pump bolt gone
    A line from the movie "Bruce Almighty" flashes to mind where Bruce makes the challenge...."smite me! oh mighty Smiter!"

    Well I shouldn't have even thought it because just as I had given a wry smile at the notion, a familiar ding, ding, ding comes from the cabin...... three amigos

    So a tear down yesterday revealed a destroyed crankshaft on journal 2,3
    The head and camshaft survived just fine which I put down to the use of moly assembly lube.
    Now looking for TD5 short motor.

    I wont continue with the setback this has made to the Defer rebuild or the efforts to move house.

    What are the odds of virtually all known D2 TD5 failures happening almost simultaneously?........actually don't answer that.

    Ouch,

    As I look out the window toward my 2002 D2, I think to myself... please, please, please, I hope that doesnt happen to me. So I touch my head (yes its made out of wood.) and pray to the D2 gods. (currently have had a good run with mine, nothing much has gone wrong (now Ive done it!!!!! probably angered the gods right there.)!

    Hope you get it all fixed soon.

    Bah, they're too busy laughing it up at me to bother anyone else for a while.

    I'm on night shift tonight and heading to bed, I'll probably wake up to find it on its side with family of Meer Cats living in it.....oh wait... it it will be the spontaneous combustion, better give the Firies a "heads up"
