Lightbulb What does this code mean ?CODE P1884

I had a strange thing happen to me early this morning.Started up the 99 D2 Td5 Automatic Disco with 295 000km on the clock and all was fine.Drove out the drive way and on to the road and noticed it was missing badly.

I started to drive and then the M and S lights came on along with the engine light. Then all of a sudden I had no drive at all.Even though it was still in drive.I had to quickly roll to the side of the road. The engine was still running so I turned it off and started it up again. The lights went off but was still missing.

So I parked it up and got the other car to drive to work. When I got home I hooked up the Nanocom Evo and it gave me these codes
    CODE P1884
CAN MESSAGE WFPDK (DKI) INVALID (FFH)

(21,6) PROBLEMS DETECTED WITH DRIVER DEMAND (LOGGED).

I've got silicon intercooler hoses and have had some problems with the clamps coming loose and causing a bad miss.So I tightened them all again as some were a little bit loose.I then cleared the codes and it seems to be running fine again. From what I have found on the net about the code it could be 8 different things.

Could someone with more experience point me in the right direction about what it could be? It was driving perfectly the day before and the auto shifts smoothly as well.Any help would be great.
    Thanks
    Chris

Possible cause as listed in the Diagnostic flow says "Throttle position measurement fault present in engine management ECM"

Problem with the Throttle Position Switch?

From what I understand it's basically saying that the speed signal it's getting from the ABS sensors doesn't match the accelerator input.

    There's this post:
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...and-error.html

    But according to this person:
    http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic....b3ddca1410838f

The pedal is often the first to be blamed, whereas it could be anything from collapsing/ blown off IC hoses, faulty MAF, leaking FPR, etc.

Yeah thanks for that Disco Muppet.I guess its just a pain in the ass not knowing which specific problem it is.From what I researched it could be 8 different things, which are the things that you listed as well.

Ahhh the joys of owning a D2 Td5.It was running so well before this. Hopefully it was only the loose intercooler hoses causing the problems. After I tightened them and cleared the code it ran fine.I also have to add that I have blanked off the EGR awhile back.If that makes any difference.

    G'day Ken,

I completely forgot about updating this thread. I ended up getting a second hand TPS off a member here and swapped out my one. That was after a lot of research. And i haven't had a problem since . When i first removed the accelerator pedal i noticed i was missing one of the nuts to hold it.

And funnily enough i found it on the side near the foot rest. May have just been because it was loose or the TPS may have been faulty. But since changing it, I haven't had the fault turn up in 4 years. Hope that helps.

    Cheers
    Chris

It's 4+ years since a thread was active and then a question is posted and in just over an hour gets an answer.

See how it goes after six years....

Had this today. Had the ECU out for a non connected reason. Found some oil in red plug , must be a leftover as I changed the harness recently. Cleaned that, put it back, no start. Pushed plugs in firmly, started, but MIL and M&S. No accel. Clear fault, no change... rinse and repeat... Curses, went inside to look it up, realised I'd need the code number so went back out and the MIL and M&S were out.... Picture is of the stored code, which I have now cleared. Tipping I'll be checking the pins etc on the two plugs tomorrow.

Posting this to show that other causes are possible.
