HELP! Disasterous Engine Saver Combo install!
Hi all,
The good news is the Engine Saver Combo unit works.
The bad is;
- the sudden appearance of the 3 Amigoes!!?
- A chime in the dash ringing
- A strange D like symbol on the odo display
- The sudden draining of the main battery (has dual battery set-up)
The Engine saver was powered using a fuse double adapter off the 10 amp AC fuse (Fuse 31). When the engine saver is disconnected the problem remains.
The only thing that I did that was not included in the install guide was I removed the Aux battery's earth that was connected to the same place the heat sensor was supposed to be installed and moved it to the next bolt which holds the exhaust shroud. See below.

I also had a hard time getting all the engine saver connectors through the R/H grommet, is it possible that all the thrashing around near the main engine loom has dislodged or damaged a important wire?
Anyone have any ideas what has happened or any suggestions on how to fix?
Cheers,
Mark

Is your Disco an auto? The "D" in the odo display is for Drive in an auto . How old is your battery? those symptoms can be low voltage related. It may be you have inadvertently linked a positive wire to earth resulting is a drain..

Yes, it is an auto. The battery isn't old, however I may have discharged it somewhat with all my night-time installing of the engine saver. I have put the battery on charge - Hopefully that will fix it. Here's hoping that there's not a short occurring somewhere - especially not in the main loom!

Scott's onto it.
The battery is a great place to start. Maybe you can swap it with one that has a known good charge level.
Is the weird D on the dash actually a 'D' with a crossed line through it?
The chime is perhaps because your BCU has had a small hissy fit and reset one of the settings that a previous owner had changed (eg. with a Nanocom you can disable the 'key in' and seatbelt warning chimes.
Do you have access to a Nanocom?

Yes, the D has a crossed line through it (and it is in park). Is that bad?
Unfortunately I don't have access to a Nanocom - Anyone near Tamworth have one?

Thanks everyone - seems to be going now. No three amigos, only issue is the radio is asking for the code which I didn't get with the car - but can certainly survive without the radio for now!

Any dealer will have the radio code...they'll simply need the VIN from you, and maybe proof of ownership...

The radio is going again now - I had the security card in my car documents.
