Use it or lose it, your call, but it's worth having something there.

Took mine off when I replace my Xrox bar as the bolt os not long enough.

Winch cradle wont protect the steering gear so i'd be leaving it on, nothing a couple of longer bolts wont fix.

It's not the length of the bolts - it's getting the holes to line up

My winch tray covers the exact same spot - they touch (hence the issue) - so I'm probably being dim, but why would the bar offer more protection?

Have a look at where the steering drag link sits in relation to the wombat bar. That should illuminate the dimness.

Thanks - just been to take a look next you'll be telling me it's not really designed to protect against wombats ...

If that means you used the original bolts for the xrox I wouldn't be winching or pulling off it until there's some high tensile bolts in there.

No, nothing stops wombats
It's more if you hit something small, like a dog or a fox, that instead of smacking into a bar or bumper goes under the car and bends your steering link, that can cause all kinds of headaches.
