I was very concerned about ride quality for the sake of the wife and kids. It's her car so she uses it every day. We tour in it on holidays. Mine is a 300tdi 130 twin cab so I'm not so fussed about ride.

Back to the D2, after installing the winch and bar the front coils sagged so much the bump stops would bottom out in town. It had to be changed.

Spoke to Dobs about the coils and '2 lift is a heavy coil. I knew from the start that the ride would be different to standard but now that it's done the benefit is worth it.

    Here's how it handles...
I'll attempt to explain the difference in driving experience. Living in Central Qld the roads are rough and the road trains tend to run the road out a fair bit. Previously the car would steer more in the ruts and the bumps would give you more of a hold than anything. I found now that the vehicle steers with more of a "sure foot" than before and the bumps are handled without the old jolt.

Body roll has been reduced almost completely for a non ACE model. Steering is predictable and more immediate.

In the rear the ride is firmer and noticeable. I was concerned but after a week I couldn't notice it at all. The same characteristics as the front with the benefit of load carrying capacity. The coils are built for it and comes in to its own once loaded a bit.

I felt very confident driving long distances with a heavy load over rough terrain. Some places on Fraser was really rough and we had to hammer it to keep going. The suspension kept coming back for more.

Now please keep in mind that my suspension setup now is '2 HD front and rear with '2 big bore shocks.
On the vehicle I have a winch bar and winch, a full length steel roof rack and awning from T11 and the spare wheel stays on the rear door. This extra weight helps the ride a bit when not loaded but as I said before it is not harsh by any means.

weekend project for us was fitting 40mm dobinsons springs and bilstein shocks to disco all 4 old shocks u/s so hard to compare good standard and new setup but after 300k trip covered every Sunday we both decided ride is firmer but also more comfortable (compared to old ones bottoming out). less body roll so we do think the new setup is a mod well done

Can you give us the hub centre to guard distance in mm and were they the HD or Comfort +40mm springs?

    Thanks

    Happy Days.
