Can't turn off hazard lights and engine won't start.

I just finished replacing the water pump on my 99 D2 V8. I filled up the coolant and the last thing I did was to put back the negative lead onto the battery. I then went to start up the car (with the bonnet still open) but when I turned the key the hazard lights came on and the engine wouldn't turn on. It cranks but doesn't start.

When turning off the key the hazard lights are still on, even if I lock the car. The only way to turn them off seems to be to disconnect the battery. I tried connecting the battery again and start up and the same scenario occurred.

What is going on? Is it related to the alarm system or immobiliser? Did I get water in something that has now short circuited? Have I not put the auxiliary belt on properly, preventing the engine from starting?

Inertia switch tripped? Rubber covered button on the passenger side firewall, under the bonnet. Press once for service to resume....

X2 inertia switch . In the event of a collision tripping the inertia switch it shuts down the motor and activates the hazard warning lights

Thanks guys. Found it and fixed it with some contact cleaner spray. This is from RAVE:

I noticed that the connector for the fuel cut-off switch is sort of loose. It doesn't click in but rather just slides on and hangs there. Doesn't take much for it to fall out. Maybe that is the problem.

I remember Nanocom can change settings whether flash of hazards or not.
