    running wires for uhf

    Hey guys been looking thru the forum for ideas on where to install a uhf and im gonna put it on the ceiling between the sun visors. I was just wondering how people got the wires to the battery and kept them out of sight?
    Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers

    Scott

    Hey mate.
    I mounted my Uniden there and it looks really good. As far as the wiring is concerned I ran the power and negative direct from the battery on the RHS of the car up the A pillar and into the roof coming out in the void occupied by the interior light.
    The Coax was run up the LHS the same way. I cut two neat holes in the plastic blank at the rear of the light to accommodate the wiring. The end result is very neat and looks like its been there from the factory. The only issue I have is that occasionally the mic falls down out of its clip which puts the wind up one slightly!!!
    Regards

    To get round this annoyingly repetative bouncey mic meets head scenario
    I took the clip bobin off the back of the mic replaced the bobin with some velcro, and some of the opposite velcro up on the corner of the o/head console and viola no more being clouted on the noggin by a boucing mic missile whilst climbing rock steps

    I piggybacked the power off the interior light wiring, so I only had to run the coax to the bullbar. Might not be the best solution, but it was simple & it worked for me. As above, the coax goes above the headliner & then down the A pillar

    What model of UHF?

    I put mine, with the remote face, inside the lower cover under the steering column, with the face up top in the overhead consul. The cable for the face runs up the A pillar and I drilled a hole in the roof lining behind the RH corner of the consul, can't be seen and is long enough to drop the consul without an issue.

    The other benefit is the mic can be fitted to either the face or the base unit. I have it on the base and drilled a hole just below the twist lock for the lower cover, the cable has it's own grommet so it looks good. The mic hook is as below. Remove the lower two switch blanks and screw the back plate to the cross bar, then fit the front.

    [QUOTE=clubagreenie;1993550]What model of UHF?

    Its a uniden uh-089 its not the small face one like your pic, I had it given to me so may as well use it, I was mostly interested on where people had run the wires once inside the car, thanks for all your advice guys (im kinda new to the landrover and mechanic/eletronics) but looking forward to learning

    Cheers

    Scott
