Still slow to start, rough idle and now stalls does a nanocom assist fault finding?

    Hi Everyone,

The D2 - TD5 is still not quite right. I've replaced the fuel pump and the battery, it's a new 750CCA battery.

Starting the D2 improved heaps with the new battery, however after a day run around some dirt tracks then through a little bit of snow, as I got close to home (thank god!) the D2 stalled when I pulled up at the lights. I eventually got it started and then kept my foot on the accelerator at the subsequent lights before it stalled completely at the driveway.

Is this something that having a nanocom will assist with diagnosing the problem? I'm yet to make the plunge as it's now a question of buying a nanocom or paying a mechanic to look into this. Happy to know if I nanocom will assist as that's what I'll get and then have a crack at it myself.

Truth is, I really want to get some reliability sorted out with the truck. While out I did get to engage Low and HDC on the way back down and it was cool and the reason I bought this rig.

    Thanks for your input.

    Peter.

I would be paying serious attention to the Injector wiring loom and the engine wiring loom as possibly faulty (Oil etc)

Before it stalled, were all the lights, bells and whistles creating a din????
If so it could be low voltage.Depending on the fault the alternator light will not always come on.
If you have a multimeter read the volts off the battery. 1 when its off,2 when running,3 with lights/spotties etc on.You should get between 12V and 13V for no1,14V for both running and running under load.
    GOODLUCK

This sounds so much like oil in the harness , have you checked? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

pop the bonnet and have a look

Id pop the bonnet and look for issues like failed hoses - modulator control, intercooler hoses, ecu harness and any other typical disco ailments. Air filter blocked etc as a starting point.

    Hi Andrew,

No, none of the above. In fact when it first happened it was so quiet when I hit the accelerator and nothing happened I was completely stumped. It took a while to notice the engine had stopped running.

The dash lights were all lit up as expected.

Took quite of a bit of cranking to get it started again too.

Will try to find my multimeter and do the checks suggested though.

Not me personally, but it was checked by the mechanic when it was in for the major repairs about 5000km's ago.

Back then all hoses were replaced, along with the radiator.

I'll check the harness tomorrow.. need to google what it looks like. I've pulled the plug off at the engine, I think that's the right loom people are speaking of?

Anyway.. will find something with pictures I'm sure.

Have a look at the discovery2 site for oil in the harness description and pics, www.discovery2.co.uk / Workshop /Injector Harness

And a lot of other problems too!
