What I did today on my TD5

Well what started out to be a straight forward inlet manifold gasket led to other things as you would expect with a DIIa.

Apart from most of the conduit falling apart (brittle) when manipulating the wiring harness to get the inlet manifold off, all went relatively easy with the manifold itself.

Along the way the fuel cooler decided to start dripping coolant as soon as I touched it so I conducted the rebuild on this with new viton o-rings and clamps as per my emergency kit. I expected this to happen sooner or later as my disco has done 120000 km and this stuff has never been touched. This rebuild went well and is pretty easy.

I then continued to rape an pillage my emergency kit for what was a slight weep from the fuel pressure regulator. I fitted a new gasket and orings to the fuel pres reg while the manifold was off as it is easy to get to. Unfortunatley I could not get the actual pressure reg out of the housing and I was starting to damge it trying to. This sucked greatly as the regulator hadf actually started to spin meaning that I had cracked the seal on the large oring. I still could not get it out and as I did n ot have a spare regulator I had to bite the bullet and refit the assembly without replacing the o-rings on the regulator assem. (very bad idea I know).

So after a few hours all back together, with the addition of a boost gauge port on the inlet manifold to actually get accurate manilfold pressure(pic attached).

I took the old girl for a spin and that o-ring I disturbed on the fuel pres reg bloody leaks........diesel dripping........very sad indeed.

The good news is I can actually now measure the manifold pressure. Was max 19 PSI under full throttle at the manifold.

Anyways thats what I did today only to still have a fuel leak. bloody land rover........

Any ideas where to permanently mount the boost guage in the cab now I have a decent outlet to attach to.

    Thanks

    Dave

I'll swap you that for my transfer case that leaves everything to the rear of it slightly spotty from dripping onto the tail shaft
Although that might just be a leaking cover plate (yeah right)

I'm going to put mine in the spot between the a pillar and the instrument binnacle.
Some people like mudpods and similar arrangements but I like to keep the dash clean so that rules that out.
Put it wherever you're happy with it.

    .
Yep online right now looking for something to mount between the A-pillar and the binacle as you call it, good plan.
