    TD 5 Auto Power Loss

My disco td5 auto seems to be struggling going up hills with a load on. It is OK on the flat but heading up any hill with a load of camping gear and it kicks back a couple of gears, revs its guts out and struggles to do 80 kmh. Any ideas what the problem might be?

    Delaminating turbo hoses?
    Blowing lots of black smoke?
    Turbo wastegate?

Does it have a turbo 'kick' or is there none ? I'd start by checking the waste gate actuator, boost control valve and hoses associated with this.

Thanks for the reply. I wondered about the turbo hoses as a possibility as they show signs of oiliness around the clamp. I apologise but I am a self confessed mechanical incompetent but please could you explain what a turbo waste gate is.

Thanks for the reply. It still has a turbo kick so think the turbo is still working. I will get the rest looked at. Thanks once again.

If it's still got the turbo kick then I don't think it's the wastegate (Controls how much boost you get) but I'm not fantastic with turbos.

    Other areas to consider

The reason for the question about the turbo kick, is that the control hoses associated with the turbo can fail, therefore no turbo, therefore runs like a dog.

I'd start with some other areas, if there is a kick, not just it spoolling up slowly. Can you hear the fuel pump running? I've heard some issues associated with non genuine LR fuel filters, (so much so, that some independents now only use LR fuel filter), oil in the ecu connector is easy to check and clean, clean the MAF (MAF cleaner available now at most auto stores), IAT (sensor on inlet manifold).

If you can find someone close with a nanocom or willing to swap out parts, then change the MAF etc.
