    Provent opinions

    Morning,
My td5 disco breathes fairly heavily, some of the oil ends up back at the map sensor on the inlet manifold. Would it totally stop oil at the sensor if a Provent is fitted?

    Cheers

I fitted one recently, They definitely work in removing oil, but I also got rid of the EGR valve as well.

The current generation of Provent filter elements should be able to remove at least 95% of the mass of oil mist. Likely closer to 99%.

I mounted it on the rear LHS firewall. I found a picture of a bracket in the stickies for Provent's in TD5's someone had designed. I can post a picture if you want.

I think that might be LandyAndy's version.
I have pics of his and IanP's but with the doc at 2.7MB, would have to email to a normal address - too big to post here.

Thanks but my dual battery is over there. Not much space left under bonnet being an D2a HSE with all the options.

I am slowly searching the posts on this forum re how best to plumb the PROVENT but haven't just yet noticed a definitive or recommended approach. Personally, whether i go for a PROVENT or not largely depends on understanding if the TD5s 'positive' crankcase ventilation installation will be compromised leading to increased crankcase pressures and subsequent undesirable consequences - or do i have an over active imagination...?

Installation on a TD5 is very simple. The drain can T into the turbo drain, and the existing 19mm vent line from the tappet cover just gets lengthened to go through the provent.

The provent has a valve in the cap which vents to atmosphere if the crankcase pressure gets too high, so there is no way the crankcase can overpressurise unless the valve malfunctions.

Hmmmmm! ... sounding good does the T come with the PROVENT?
