    Battery Drain

    Ok, 1999 D2 TD5
Have a strange problem with Battery drain overnight.
If I leave the car unlocked the battery will drain,
but if I lock it with the key fob/alarm it is fine, the immobilizer is disabling whatever is drawing the battery power.
    Anyone else had this??

Tried a new battery but does the same

get a multimetre, test the amp drain
pull out fuse, retest amp draw, replace fuse, until the offending circuit is found.

I cant find any significant draw at any of the spade fuses with the key off.
Ive checked the power windows, (set to not work after any door open)
    & this is fine.
I have no humming at the ABS module with the key out.
Battery stays fine if I lock with the key fob....

the only place I could find power being draw was at fusible link 5&6 under the hood.
these FL's power the fuses for front & rear windows, power sun roof & rear window de-mister also seat relays.
if I remove front & Rear window fuses (34 for front & 13 for the rear)
in the car these FL's stop drawing amps,
However there is no amps being draw through the fuses themselves unless I use the windows up or down
I have no sun roofs or powered seats either

The power windows should disable 45 seconds after turning the ignition off, if they don't there is a battery drain which will flatten the battery. This should only afflict 2000MY D2's in the range YA274671 to YA290737, but if the BCU has been replaced with a used unit at some point this may have carried over.

The fix was to rewrite the Market Code in the BCU and reconfigure - see attached. (the pdf is on the RAVE CD)

While it should be possible to do this with a Nanocom or Hawkeye, I couldn't say if simply toggling the Market Code will be enough.

    cheers

Further to our phone call Luke...http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ery-drain.html
Interesting that it talks of passenger compartment fuse11, same as the sunroof you don't have.
    Cheers, Kyle.

    easy when you know!!!

Well after discovering a constant .30 AMP draw with everything off, & removing abs & interior light fuses
I went through every relay & fuse on the vehicle many times, but found it's still drawing .30AMP.

I have a winch & I leave the earth strap disconnected from the battery until i go off road, so it couldn't be that.......
This morning after much head scratching & frustration I undone the positive lead from the winch to battery & bingo, down to, .001amp draw on the amp meter.
I remember I went through some fairly deep water a while back when this problem started, & the next morning the battery was flat, I put it down to the alternator getting a gut full of water & blamed it at the time.
Didn't even look at the winch as the earth was disconnected.....
what water can do, lesson here is to always disconnect the positive on any circuit.
Can't explain why locking with the fob bought a day or so but it did, maybe puts the car elec system to sleep sooner.
Normal battery draw for the D2 is 35MA, i was 10 times that at .35 AMP.

Cheers & thanks to all for their imput
