Well thanks to it running so much cooler, despite blowing a head gasket and pressurising the system and blowing a hose I noticed it before the temp got to 100, and so now the engine's fine, apart from needing to do the heads.

Good chance to replace the cam with once suited to the engine now, might improve the economy with a 4.6 new cam instead of a worn 4.0.

So your 4.6 is with 4.6 cam?
My last tank was just under 3.5 kpl. And thats with new MAF, O2 sensors, cam and crank sensors, auto..... and not towing

I would encourage anyone buying a new thermostat to confirm the temp stamped on the rim of the thermostat itself so you know what you are getting
The part no on the listing is
    PART N°:PEM100990.

fitted this arvo, finally running at low 80's
    ready for summer
