Sorry, missed the rebuilt statement.
Has it been there since the rebuild? Or just appeared after XX kilometres?
G'day all.
I am still experiencing a unusual vibration @ 110km/h. I am fairly sure it is from the driveline. The wheels have just been ballanced and rotated and the front shaft has been rebuilt/ballanced. The vibration is an on..off..on..off..on..off type. It only happens around that speed. Could anything in the gearboxes or rear driveshaft (which appears to be in top condition) cause this? Perhaps something in the handbrake drum?
Any ideas?

Robbo

No the vibration was there before rebuilding the front shaft.

The brake linings vibrate against the backing plate at 2200RPM .
There is a fix involving stronger retaining springs.
Have a look at my post "2steps forward and one step back"
When I get my new soes I may do a how to as IMHO I will need to shim behind the shoes to take up the wear in the backing plate.
Yours sounds worse than mine as I cannot really hear it at speed but mainly at low speed while accelerating through 2200RPM.

Do you still have the rubber coupling in the rear tail shaft?

Slunnie.
Yes rotoflex coupling still there. It's the original.

G'day all.
Had a look at the rotoflex this arvo and it is soft and full of hairline cracks. It's the original. Should I replace or change out to a uni joint?

This only my opinion as I have not yet had a problem.
If you had a D1, I would say go to a UJ, as the arc of the rear suspension travel is different to the arc of the driveshaft which causes the donut to flex continually. Also the axle rotation is controlled by the balljoint and triangle arms.
However the D2 has much longer rear trailing arms which are about the same length as the driveshaft so the deflection of the donut is much less.
My donut seems fine at 145Kk.
Also the angle of the axle is controlled by the trailing arms as they have 2 mounts under the axle this means the diff nose is always/ generally at the same angle to the donut.
How many ks has yours done? If over 160Kk or so, how long do you think UJs last? I changed mine at 160 Kk on my RRC and they looked pretty sad.

I wouldn't change the Rotoflex to a Uni unless you're consistently breaking rotoflexs. The Rotoflex absorbs vibrations in the driveline which come from the front and back.
