    As a last resort...

I would personally only use Genuine (MANN+HUMMEL) for the bypass rotor.

I only ever use a Ryco Z614 for the full flow filter and I use a genuine for the spinner filter and I use a Ryco Z615 fuel filter plus I use Ryco for the air filter

Wooh. I just got a cold shiver reading Ryco air filter. I got a heap of dust past my filter running a ryco air filter for less than 2000km. And I had changed it because the last paper filter did the same and I just needed one urgent and it was all I could get at short notice..

    Happy Days.

    filters

I took the ryco back to super cheap as they had fortunately given me the wrong one . Got a refund and went to the local guy who does aftermarket land rovers ,turns out that I had it wrong. They tell me that the spinning filter is the primary filter and is the one they change every 10.000 kms and the spin on cartridge is replaced every 60.000 kms. That works for me.
I thought I would post this for any one like me who knows no better.
    Regards Nick..

I just change both every 10,000. They aren't that expensive.

Personally I'd happily use the Ryco brand filter.

Only genuine for all filters. Not because they are genuine specifically, but because I don't think there are better filters than the ones LR happened to have selected for the TD5.

This is generally the case with most "cars". The OEM filters are specced according to what it is thought the engine needs in terms of filtration.

Aftermarket filters are copies - made to a price. Once an engine/vehicle is released the aftermarket companies will buy the OEM filters and reverse engineer them. In many cases they will find the closest filter they already produce and just adapt it to suit (which may be just changing the thread for a spin-on).

Only a few companies - including MANN FILTER, Donaldson, Fleetgard (Cummins) claim their filters are "OEM or better quality". The only problem is Donaldson and Fleetgard don't make filters for "cars" (i.e. Landrovers apart from those fitted with 4BD1(T)s).

So in short, OEM is likely to be the best quality 99% of the time.

(Also Ryco/GUD are practically unknown on the global filter market)

Interesting read from America. Ryco might not be too bad???? Pity there are on OEM filter for the Land Rover, anyone got the internal information to compare?

Oil Filters Revealed - MiniMopar Resources

    Ryco

    Z9

This filter makes the most effective use of its inside space of any filter I have seen to date. The case length is one of the longest as well, which might be a clearance concern for some. It has the longest cartridge as well as the longest filter element out of all the filters. This gives it by far the largest surface area of any filter on this page: 490 sqin. The bypass valve is a spring-loaded steel valve located at the back of the cartridge. The cartridge is held in place using a stiff coil spring.

Unfortunately, these filters are made in Australia and are hard to come by in the US. I received this filter back in 1999 from a fellow enthusiast down under and I really wish I had torn it apart earlier. I'd like to see a 2008 version if anyone can give me a lead on one.
