Alternator light on my TD5 disco just came on.... Come on...just before christmas

Saturday morning on my short trip for coffee a light stayed on in my dash. Damn if it wasn't the alternator.
A quick check with Hawkeye confirmed that with the engine running the voltage was at only 12volts.

Any simple suggestions out there for quick fixes?
It's going to be tough to get spares this time of year.

Most likely just the brush pack. Most auto sparkles have them.

Alternator on its way. Being delivered to my door from TR Spares.
I was getting concerned that getting parts at this time of year may be tough. Hopefully my paperweight vehicle wil be moving again by tonight.

Will keep the old one and recondition it when time is available.

Not really worth reconditioning with new ones being so cheap.
You can replace the regulator and brush pack but that’s about it
When I went to do it I was told the most common failure was the stator and you cant buy them.

If you can only buy Denso if its a long term car

I was told it was a Denso unit on its way.

Like you said, if the rotor and stator are ok I will put in new bearings, brush pack and regulator and reco the unit as an emergency spare. Not sure if the vacuum pump can be overhauled but will look around. I can get a regulator and brush pack from the UK pretty cheap.

    New denso unit fitted.
All happy. Spare to go on the shelf. Worn brushes appear to be the main issue.
