Only ever had them fail giving them a hard time a lot of MUD, ROCKS AND SAND WORK. Chipped TD5 TWIN LOCKERS AND BIG RIGHT BOOT. I have worked out they don't like being rocked R AN D OR R AN 1ST OR GETTING HOT. All have lost drive foward.

They're 4 speed automatic gearboxes. The ZF4HP22 was used in many Landrovers and manufactured by ZF in Germany, the Turbo700 is a pretty common unit used in a lot of Commodores and is a pretty standard GM auto gearbox.

just remember that even a tricked up th700 is only strong in 1st and 2nd where oil pressure is used to engage and disengage the clutch packs and 3rd and 4th use spring pressure to hold the clutch packs.
I haven't looked into how the zf box works

How about just getting an upgraded Ashcroft 4hp24 unit?

IF I read the specs right and going on reports around, the T700 is no stronger overall than the ZF. Want a strong box? TorqueFlite it!

I have looked at this but the turbo 700 is a big box and will not fit in the tunnel fair enough the turbo 700 can be built twice as strong as the ZF , but the tunnel is not the only problem the front tail shaft will not clear the pan as it is to wide.

The trouble may be the "EH" bit at the end of the ZF4HP22EH.
This is an electronically controlled transmission so has no kickdown cable.
The early 700s are a manually controlled by a kickdown cable.
There is nowhere on a TD5 to fit a kickdown cable as the accelerator is electronic.
If the 700 were electronic you could fit a stand alone controller.

The Torqueflite RRCs had a solid bar front driveshaft which would be like unicorns teeth, but a driveshaft place could maybe make one with a solid bar for clearance.
Forget Torqueflite as they take about 50BHP to run and a TD5 doesn't have much more than that for takeoff. slowest RRC I have ever driven.
    Regards PhilipA
