Hm interesting idea I'm in the same situation but not sure whether and how you would seal the tray as I would assume the battery would not like to be submerged when doing river crossings etc.
G'day all, replaced the SLS / airbags with coils on my 2004 Disco td5. When I removed the SLS compressor I figured there is an opportunity to re-use the bracket on the chassis rail for a 2nd/3rd battery. Anyone done this? What battery (or size battery) did you go for?
I have a 2nd battery in the ARB tray next to the turbo in the engine bay but this is not the greatest spot due to the excessive heat in that area.
Thoughts?

Good thinking! Consider any weight difference on the mounts particularly on corrugated roads.
I'd consider putting an AGM battery in. Completely seal battery and if only wading in fresh water should be a problem in my eyes.
...by the way...what did you do with the compressor/components?
Just wondering...![]()
I mounted an AGM on its side there, fitted with a base plate wide enough to protect the battery and an insertion rubber protector on the front. Being sealed it wasn't affected by water. There's an old thread with pictures on here somewhere.

I have mounted a 80AH Full River AGM Battery there on its side, been there about 4 or 5 years now with no problems at all!, I had to make a clamp to hold it in which was easy!
Cheers

My bracket is banana shaped, not sure how safe it would have been had I had a battery sat there!.
Just something to consider when tackling the rougher stuff.![]()
I have done plenty of Rough Stuff with it there and never had a problem, you have to remember that if there is nothing in it and you it a rock or a log it will bend easy, when you fill the cradle with a battery and then the way the clamp works pulls it very tightly into the side of the chassis its very very strong!
