    01 TD5 aircon re gas

    Hey guys,
I am just about to make an offer on a 2001 td5. It looks like a good deal. everything is working well, all the accessories work, cruise control engages, new fuel block fitted and it runs smoothly and cleanly. The only thing not working is the aircon.
So my Question is, How much is that likely to cost me to have re-gassed?
it would be handy information to have so I can use it when I make my offer.
    thanks for any help

Depends if the car has rear air con or not. That will be a decisive factor in cost. I got mine done and the guy charges like $90 or so from memory for a regular regas but with my rear air con it needed almost twice as much so cost me about $150. All worked beautifully afterwards though.

A/C repair is like abit of string really, you never know how big it will be. It could be a simple electrical fault to expensive component replacement. The gas shouldnt escape, if it does the leak needs to be repaired. So get a couple of quotes and make sure they show you what the fault is so you can get an idea if one of them is lieing to you. Also the receiver/ dryier should be changed if the gas is removed, it should be changed every 5 or so years. Its job is to absorb any moisture in the gas,so if not done its like doing an engine oil change with out changing the oil filter. I have seen A/C systems eaten from the inside out due to corrosion formed inside the pipes due to moisture and have refused to gas cars that have been in panel shops for repairs before because they wash the car during repairs with the pipes open and then tell me they didnt allow for a dryer in the insurance quote.
The loss of licience and fines for me isnt worth doing a ''cheap job'' for someone and getting sprung. I know there are other gases that can be used without a licence but these are not industry standard, but the principle is still the same ,''wacking some gas in it'' may come back to bite you later.
So a simple gas leak repair, dryer change and regas would be about $200 depending on the amount of gas and the receiver dryer price some are cheap some are expensive, sorry havent done any discos so im not sure.
    Broken down its 1hr labour $85 1kg?134a gas $70 Plus dryer $?

    Cheers Steve

I had mine done 4 months ago. It had the original dryer on it. It cost me $400 inc the dryer. The reason it cost more was it holds more gas with the rear A/C.
He also found the relay for the A/C clutch was a bit sticky so we swapped it for horn as it does less work.
    Now it's icy cold.

    Cheers
    Craig
