Wa wa woo wa! Sounds like alot of awesome and amazing upgrades buddy keep us posted!!!!
Merry Christmas all!
My head gasket has gone and I've decided to put in a 4.6L motor in as the rest of the car is still of value to me.
I've spotted great plains, RPi and Triumph Rover spares who all do 4.6 short and long blocks. Just wondering if anyone has done this and if so any advice? Also what else needs to he changed/upgraded, ecu remapped, etc and can anyone recommend any reputable shops in Perth.
I'll take this opportunity to tidy up the car, replace dented panels and a bit of a blow over, new headlining and give the old girl a really good birthday. Finish of sliders and rear tyre carriers as well as long range tanks.
Looking forward to having a 'new car'!

12 months ago I bolted a TRS short 4.6 high comp motor into a customers '94 classic, it is a lovely motor to drive. I'm sure they can give advice on ECUs too.
Mine was done by Kevin at Jordan Rovertech. Not cheap, but he's very good.
Just make sure if you're using a brand new block like mine, that they soak it in degreaser overnight to get the wax coating off.
Cheers all. I'll start ringing the suppliers up and find out more.
There is also another place Turner Eng.
Some really sell their engines and others have minimum info - just want to make sure I end up with the best option and value.
I am thinking of upgrading to the 4.6 in about 12 months. I spoke to TRS about 3 months ago to get an idea. They seem very experienced and do this swap very regularly, drop off the car in the morning and have it back in the evening with a new top hat lined short block and your heads and all the other bling refitted.
Keen to hear how you go with this.
I imported a short 4,6 from Turners, the fitting cost more than the engine, silly to spend all that and not change all the hoses and rreplace the ten year old rad. then it took a week for the final build and fitting. The car will run on a 4L ecu. I am hanging out to fit a 4,6 fuel map though,,,

Please... Fit all new parts. Mine had mostly new (rad, hoses, etc) but they reused the water pump which has now failed 12mths on. Luckily with a scangauge fitted the motor was okay, but for the sake of $150-250 on a $8k job, they should've fitted a new one straight up.
Thanks for the advice! I agree a fresh engine deserves a fresh cooling system.
Pedro, atleast i know it will run, ie wont be a trailer queen until it gets a remap.
Cheers for the good info!
I have fired away some inquiries really just waiting for replies to confirm price and delivery. Still haven't called around locally RE mechanic/workshop to do the fitting. Is this something most mechanics can do or should I leave it to LR specialist(s) - not sure if there are many in Perth?
Better to do it yourself really. That way you will know there are no shortcuts taken.
There are some thorough master mechanics out there but how do you find one?
Ive had my share of experiences with shoddy work.
Have u access to a shed with a stout beam from which you can swing a lifting block. I can send you a guide on the easiest way to get the engine out and refit the new one. Its very easy if its an auto.
BTW There are several items you should change or service while the engine is out. Get a decent water pump such as airtex.
If you are going to pay for someone to do it, ask judicious questions such as how they intend to prime the oil system prior to breakin. How will they set lifter preload if you supply a short block. What assembly lube will they use.
What procedure will they use to torque the head bolts and lower inlet manifold. etc. Will they use or follow the Landrover V8 overhaul manual using correct torque settings and sequence for critical fasteners. Have they got an accurate 3 -20Nm torque wrench.
Have they got the correct adapter to pressure test the integrity of the cooling circuit prior to the critical breakin.
If the engine develops any issues or noise - what is the duration of their warranty - longer the better.
You might also think about tapping a 1/8 NPT thread into the lower manifold where the coolant rises from number 8 - so you fit an accurate aftermarket temp gauge. Suggest you also tap the front of the lower manifold adjacent to the Coolant temp sender in order to fit a REDARC low coolant alarm or put a float in your coolant bottle as outlined in various threads here.
Hope this info helps.
