    Newbie Tyres

Hi, I am new to this forum and to owning a disco. But the other day I thought I'd treat myself to a new toy, which turned out to be a stock disco 2 v8. Now I got it reasonably cheap and so there are some things that need doing. First is tyres, the tyres are almost bald and I'd like a new set.

So my question is what's the biggest size tyre I can get on the standard 16" alloy rims?

I was hoping for some Maxxis bighorns or similar. I was also hoping to not have to lift the suspension as I've never done that before on a 4x4 and budget doesn't allow that yet! I need to sort out other issues like fuel tank breather hose cracked split. And monumental oil leaks from both cam covers and I think front main seal. I'm sure I will be asking many more questions soon. Thank you for your help.

    Welcome to the forum.
There are many, many posts on tyres. Do a search on the forum. Start off searching in the Discovery 2 section first.
    Good luck.

    Hi, thanks.

After much reading, deliberating and confusion, I have decided that you lot can only agree to disagree!

On a STANDARD disco 2 I am going to fit 265/75/16 Maxxis Big Horns. Some of you may stat that these will rub others we argue that. But from my opinion of what I have read 265/75/16 is the best looking, best off-road and best size to fit to a standard disco 2.

    Thanks.

You definately wont be dissapointed with the 265's.
The lift will be next and you wont look back. Enjoy.

Looks are more important than being legal then?

I just got maxxis bighorns a couple of weeks ago in 265/75/16, glad I went that size, I searched the forum for advice (was told to keep an eye on wear) and got them at a good price, so happy days.
Ive trimmed the front mud guard in half vertically and during normal driving have no issues, but have been driving the tracks between beachport and robe the last few days and on a certain angle still get scrubbing on the front mudguard (no biggie really) overall glad I got that size no under body scrapes yet

To be honest, I have read the posts about tyre sizes and legalities, I'm not particularly bothered about it. A lot of others don't seem to be either. From what I've read the police aren't too hot on it as they don't know what's supposed to be on the car anyway. It's seems to be a silly law to create revenue for the government.

It's got nothing to do with looks. Approach , departure and diff clearance. If I could afford to do it properly, i'd go bigger.
