Moving the water/ diesel seperator behind rear wheel?

    Guys,

Just picked up a nice low klm 2001 TD5 after a few months of searching.

Got a busy few weeks ahead to fit all the stuff I have ordered for it. But one thing that puzzles me, is why in gods name would some idiot put such "delicate" object right next to the rear wheel of a 4x4.

Seriously, WTF were they thinking. Anyway, where is the best place to relocate this water/ diesel seperator thingy with the minimal of fuss?

My D1 300TDi never had such a problem, and I was constantly snagging its belly on things. So I am a wee bit scared of its impending doom on a trail.

    Any help?

Why bother, 125,000km and a fair few of that being serious off-road in mine and that is the least of your worries.

I've been reading Disco 2 stuff for about 12 months now and I have not read one case of the fuel filter location being a problem.

I know it looks bad though.

    Happy Days.

Theyre actually quite well protected there, and to move would be major surgery for no benefit.

The *only* thing to carry is the appropriate sized bolt and an oring to plug the water sensor / drain *if* it broke off in a freak hit, or, as is often the case - you undo it to drain water off and it snaps from age.

Then the bolt and oring comes in handy!!!

Ok then, might just leave it there. However I will put an aluminium shroud around it. I get into alot of back country river crossings that you can't always pick a clean line on.

If you are really concerned about it, most new filters come with a blanking plug installed to the bottom of the filter. The sensor wiring can be unplugged and the short harness removed. The sensor was deleted in the D2a's afaik and the sole purpose is to illuminate the dash light when water is detect so disconnecting will have no adverse effects.

    cheers

The sensor was deleted in the run-out D2As, along with some internal sound insulation. LR was well into D3 production so skimped on the D2 builds.
