    What to do....

    Tailshaft let go the other night heading down the Hume.

    Has taken out the Bell housing, clutch and hoses. $4500 to fix.

    03MY TD5. Manual, ACE, Otherwise good condition all around. No leaks.

    Set up for touring. Roof Rack, ARB bumper, Bilsteins, Cargo Barrier, dual batt, Engine Monitoring unit, Airbags in coils.

    225K on the clock. Had new AMC head last year.

    Fix, sell as is or part?

    There was a clunk that I was going to fix when I got home as I am on holidays this week. It let go 71 kms before it was into the garage....


    Lesson to others - if there's a clunk that's quite noticeable on the flat in first as you put your foot on and off the throttle, then get it looked at asap! Noticeable in higher gears as you took your foot off the accelerator going downhill, but barely noticeable heading uphills. You could easily modify driving style to mask it (which I had been doing for the last couple of weeks).

    $4500????? If the bellhousing only is ruined, (Clutch itself OK???)the cooler pipes are cheap or can be deleted and the blanking unit fitted, and a new Tom woods shaft etc etc then I would say $2500 incl labour ought to be more realistic.

    I'd fix it.

    $4500 seems on the steep side though, is this using Aus sourced parts? I got a Valel full clutch kit inc dual mass flywheel for about $400. That included air shipping. Can double check price if you like.

    Fix it mate sounds like your done to much to give up there is a top bloke in Sydney selling disco parts on EBAY. Store name BUNDALENE give him a ring always has most parts at a great price and very good to deal with good luck.Bundalene

    That $ was for bell housing, new clutch, flywheel and uprated / heavy duty tail shaft. Local parts.
