I had a similar bad experience a few years ago, cracking the auto trans housing.
Cost me over 6K to rehouse the auto trans, replace pipework and selector cable. Used a Tom Woods replacement shaft, which needed straightening and rebalancing as it vibrated from new.
Traded the D2 less than a year later for 10K!
