Lightbulb Dual Battery Setup TD5 D2

Okay Hi guys just registered today, thought id share my proper dual battery setup. So ive read quite a few peoples efforts to design and fit a larger battery ect where back passenger side with prihanna or arb tray, in behind storage compartment in rear of car, or the Columbia overland ones which replaces your existing but as many know it a no go as ecu jack ect are in way or is it?

for those interested my setup, I bought a tray from aedo fabrications via paypal pretty good tray easy install but where to put jack and ecu.
well jack went straight in the back with the other gear (lock nut, ratchet..)
the ecu however I relocated into the cabin. now big job aye but worthwhile I think, will post photos soon!, I disconnected my entire front harness rewired and extended the engine harness and wired into the fusebox area under steering wheel of the cabin looks mint and I reckon a better spot honestly.

I could now fit the tray with 2 optimas in place, now some may say why take ecu into cabin u can fit behind the new tray, well sure but tight squeeze and it risks hitting bonnet and u can get heat problems ect.. so with the ecu gone it made room for an isolator.

I made out of some 2.5mm ali an L bracket to mount my redarc iso.
I drilled the bracket out to use the existing bolt holes on the car came up a real neat job in end.

I recommend and auto spark for the rewire but other than that all good. now can use the piranha tray for a compressor

Gday Fez, Thanks for sharing your project, sounds like an ambitious undertaking, moving all that crap elsewhere.
I just bought a 2003 D2a TD5 and I was wondering where the heck to put another battery aside from in the back.
Those Optima batteries are the go even if a bit on the expensive side, I bet they last well though.
I reckon the ECU is better off away from all the dust and heat of the engine bay if possible.
Not to get off topic or anything but what have you done to combat the injector loom oil problem?
I look forward to seeing the pics of your dual battery setup, I need inspiration!

I would like to see a set up where someone has used the compressor tray underneath. This looks like a good location.

    Photos as promised,
When u get the tray its very straight forward so I didn't take any photos of that cause I didn't wanna pull my batts out but u can see how the isolators mounted and how the harness is rerouted and run into cabin. the ecu surprisingly fit very snug in that corner no rattling or probs closing cover just couple cable ties and ur done allow a day for the job tho the wiring takes most of. If anyone in perth wants this done u can bring to my shop and I can quote todo so. Its quite a hefty job tho

I havent done anything with the injector loom I havent had any probs personally but I have heard of it, however ill put that on my list as I could probs make a copy of the loom using sealed plugs/connections and sealed conduit. Wonder if wireless injectors are available for the d2, although that could be more problems than existing setup, ive heard other devices can interfere with them on same frequencys

    Looks good well done
Not wanting to ruin your neat job but One issue which im sure you know is the use of red cables as negative cables should be black ! This could confuse the unwary if the batterys were removed then replaced at some stage around the othe way

I got the black heat shrink on the neg and red on the pos, but the cables are high temp ceramic fire rated so honestly I didn't want to put black conduit over top as I liked the look of the red cabling. could confuse some but yeah personal preference

Well that woulda helped a month ago haha, but thinking there would still be the plugs in place where the ecu was theyd still take up a bit of room dunno if it look nice either. Be heaps quicker tho
