anyone have a source for ball joint boots?

My ball joint boots are looking pretty sad with the lower left crook but the others still there. I made up a temp one from inner tube .
Seeing the car has been on bitumin all its 145Kk , the ball joints are probably OK so I would like to just buy the boots.
There are none on ebay except some custom expensive ones in the USA.
    Anyone bought any?
    Regards Philip A

Land Rover Discovery 2 Steering Knuckle TO Axle Ball Joint Boots | eBay

    I got mine here.

If these are the expensive ones you are speaking of, I reckon they are actually pretty good value compared to buying and replacing joints that are still in good condition.

With the dollar at the time, they worked out at $10.80 each delivered.

Repco should stock a universal boot, I have used them before with no issues.

I have the problem of ball joint rubbers worn out. How difficult is it to replace the rubbers, is it just a remove & replace, or is there more involved? I've seen the excellent tutorial on replacing the ball joints, but I think mine aren't too bad , just by eyeballing them. Bob

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Hi Bob its actually very easy and took me 2 hrs to do both sides with a drink in between. Follow the tutorial up until ball joint removal, then just pull of the old boot, check for excessive movement (think tie rod end), add some grease and push the new boots on, refit and smile. It gives you a good opportunity to check out the brakes and axle seals while your at it.

I recently made a couple of YouTube vids of replacing the front ball joints. You could probably use that as a guide for replacing the boots.

    Swearing and Skinned Knuckles

Definitely check the ball joints for play when you get the hubs removed. My upper ball joints were OK but the lowers were tired. Boots for all 4 were knackered. Mine has spent most of it's 150,000Ks life on bitumen.

    Cheers

They do here and in several different sizes. I can't recall what size I buy.

Yesterday i went hunting for ball joint gators/rubbers for the lower ball joints on my xj6[as it was apart for another job and i wanted to keep going] and ended up at autobahn buying 2 steering rack gators and cutting down to size, worked well and looks good for $7.99 each

I bought a set today so that I can hopefully install them this weekend.
The largest size they had here in Penrith is the TB8 which is Small id 20mm and large id 45mm.

I guess I will find out sometime on Saturday if they fit or not... unless someone out there has a spare lower Ball Joint they can measure and advise on for me.

If your boots are split/perished I would seriously consider changing the balljoints, dirt and water would have got in no matter where it has been driven, seeing as you are striping down to change the boots, you don't want to have to do it again in 6 months
