What are people's thoughts on the offset control arm bushes?
I am about to replace all my bushes with Superpro, and they offer offset bushes for the front arms. You can get them in 2 deg or 3 deg offset. I am running about a 2.5" lift but have never researched offset bushes.

Is there any downside to running offset bushes?
What lift do you have? Just trying to work out if I need 2 or 3 deg
I haven't used the bushes, but have fitted the castor correction plates (in 6 degrees) from Les Richmond Automotive White Tiger range < Discovery 2 > which I assume do the same thing but through a different method.
According to LRA:
25 to 75mm - 4 degrees correction
50 to 100mm lift - 6 degrees correction
Based on that you'd probably want the 3 degree replacement bushes.
I'm running 4" lift. Drives great.
Slunnies running the same without offset plates or bushes...
Get a wheel alignment to check your current figures first. If you have low or negative castor, you can then use correction bushes to bring your figures back into line. If you have low positive castor ( or negative castor ) , the driving symptoms are usually light darty steering, tracks easily off course, and is slow to self centre ( or has none ) . A lot of people don't worry about it.
D4 2.7litre
I ran the same setup as Slunnie, Lovells 4" lift, no correction bushes or plates, just means you replace the standard bushes more often.
