120 deg C + (the boiling point of the coolant @14psi should be around the 125 degree mark) if you have a properly working pressure cap, the whole cooling system is sound and the coolant is correctly mixed.
My wee beastie normally sits on 90 - 94 on a warm to hot day on the open road, but climbing the big hill on the way from Melbourne towards Ballarat on a 42 plus degree day pulling a 1K plus trailer, it went over 100, plus the EGT just reached 700 before I dropped gears and slowed down. Temp was from Nanocom on instrument mode, so should be pretty spot on?
Ironically, when I later got it up to 100 on the flat, it went a bit cooler than it normally does travelling at 90 - 95!
Made me wonder, what is the coolant temperature danger point for a healthy TD5 engine? They must have the capacity to get pretty warm on a hot day working in low range with limited airflow.
I have a pretty new LR radiator and a 2nd engine with about 60 K, oversize intercooler and transmission cooling aids, so should not be any contributing factors there. I don't appear to have suffered any ill effects touch wood/ward off murphy.
Would be interested in any comments/experiences

Hi there your larger intercooler and tranny cooler are they in front
or the radiator if so they could be restricting the air flow
Going up hill you will be working harder than going along on the
flat more speed more flow.

Thanks Dave, I was hoping you'd respond.
I feel much more comfortable now as I think I have all of the mentioned parameters covered, and I don't appear to have incurred any damage arising evident during the trip home to WA (I was watching EGT and coolant temp pretty closely just in case)

To add to what Dave said, the ambient temps need to be 'added' in part to the running temps observed, don't fret 100 is fine42 degrees is a lot hotter measured at the bitumen / grille level

My D2 has a new cooling system(plus ecu and intercooler upgrade).Towing the boat in hot weather it can easilly hit 115 on the nannycom on long hills.Coming back from Albany it was 40 to 42 on the player comfort meter,on the flat at 100kmh I was getting 90 to 95.
Not using the cruise control seems to keep the temps down by at least 5deg.
