How difficult was it to fit this unit ? Did you have to modify the wiring loom fitted to the standard unit.?
Fitted new Alpine IDE-178BT with bluetooth and remote mic.
Wires to factory steering wheel controls with no messy pac adapter.
(just a 1K ohm resistor, see pic)
Comes with rear usb and 3.5 aux leads to centre consul bin.
The IDE does not play Disc's

I installed my Alpine unit yesterday. The job is insanely easy. The Disco2 uses standard iso connectors. So just purchase a ISO to whatever brand unit your installing and thats all you need. Be warned though, if your car has the amplifier under the seat, you may need to modify your purchased harness a bit. If you only get sound with radio and not with the other sources then you will find the power antenna wire is connected to the car and not the amp on wire. Just cut the powered amp wire (should be blue and labelled) and connect the amp on wire (should also be blue and labelled) to where it was.
I suspect my head unit was around just before this steering wheel control option came out.![]()
If you dont have the amp under the seat it would be very easy. The head unit is iso and so is the D2 it will plug in out of the box. The steering wheel connection will require modifications. Getting the USB in the consule bin did require removal of the centre consule.

Thanks for the thread, timely news for me…looking at replacing standard head unit…D2 with no amp under seat
how much was head unit and what was cost ?- assuming you looked around..might save me some time- Thanks Nobby
ps I do not have steering wheel controls but might consider retro fitting - will do a search on that
Thanks for that... I don't have the amp but do have the steering wheel controls. Do you know if there is another model with all these features that plays CD's ?
I bought mine on 30% off sale over xmas
Alpine 200 Watt Smartphone Controller/Receiver/USB/Bluetooth Tuner - CD Tuners - JB Hi-Fi - Smashing Prices!
The CD unit is the CDE178BT, it seems Alpine Oz arent selling them here!
Alpine - Bluetooth - CDE-178BT
The 178 is the only unit I found with adaptive steering remote connection.
It uses 3 separate wires from the HU not the 3.5 jack socket like all others.
Besides CD's are old fashioned these days![]()
I just fitted a Pioneer DEH 4650 with bluetooth , ipod contoller, CD, WMA , USB.
Blutooth music from Iphone 3GS on, SIRI , and android 4 on.
It cost $174 on ebay, and a Pioneer to ISO connector was $19.
I am rapt in it, as it has better AM than the Eurovox and every thing else works although the first phone pairing was a bitch until I pressed buttons randomly.
