3D Printed phone case for TD5

I am tired of having my phone sit in my cupholder, so am busy printing a simple iPhone 5 phone holder that matches the curve of the dashboard and will sit just to the left of the binnacle, nicely out the way.

    Hooray for 3D Printing

Pretty cool idea, although my phone just sits down in the centre beside the gear sticks.

What sort of printer do you have? I have recently put together a One up and although its nothing amazing it has got me wanting to build one myself.

i just use one of those generic phone holders that sucker onto the windscreen. Since its adjustable it still holds the G4 with the otterbox on - which is a very bulky phone

I fitted a cigarette USB charger where the fuses are under the steering wheel then fed an iPhone cable from it out from behind the instrument cluster then purchased a $5 phone suction mount from Jaycar. Works a treat and it's neat.

Having said that, 3D printing is way cool

I have the benefit of working for a reseller of large industrial scale 3D Printers, so I will print it off at work on a production 3D Printer :-)

Mazda has an interesting phone mounting solution - using the cupholder but still allow it to fit a cup !

The Mazda Genuine mobile phone holder is safe, practical and stylish. It sits securely in the cup holder of your Mazda, and fits a variety of popular smartphones including ones with larger screens.
Whilst complimenting the existing interior styling of your car, the Mazda phone holder does not compromise any of the standard features including the usability of the cup holder for drinks.
The phone holder is safely located to the left of the driving position toward the centre console. Located out of the likely head impact area, the Mazda phone holder provides easy access and clear line of sight from the driving position.
Your phone can be tilted to a suitable viewing angle, and can be rotated for portrait and landscape orientation. This feature will come in handy if you are wishing to use your smart phone for satellite navigation or music streaming whilst driving.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Not entirely sure that having your phone down there is safe. If you're using it for maps, music etc and you need to interface with it, it brings your eyes a long way from the road.

Mine sits just to the right of the instrument cluster. Can look at it for maps etc easily without the periphery of one's eyes coming off the road

Yes depends what for. In this case it interfaces with a dash mounted screen. I agree the position of the bracket is not suitable for using as a stand alone satnav but fine for audio streaming and bluetooth conversations.

Ram mount do a very nice nylon (not the weak plastic you see everywhere) generic smartphone holder...I mount it on the screen so my Galaxy s3 becomes a very nice navigator. Cheers
