    Diff pinion mix up

    G'DAy all .
I had a set of new crownwheel and pinoins in the shed for a few years and have only now decided to install them but when i got them all opened up i discovered the pinoins are different! i.e. the originnal one from my d2 has a female thread cut into the end of the shaft and the new one has a male thread sticking out. This appears to be the only difference and it stopes me putting on the cap/peg for the tailshaft to locate in . Also makes it hard to torque the nut inside the diff housing.
My question for someone who knows about this stuff is.
Can i simply cut the male thread off and sink a female thread into the shaft?
Or will this weaken it ?
pretty anoying as i ordered the parts to suit a D2 and obviously got something else.
    Thanks all.

Youre trying to use the Donut style shaft arent you...

Switch to the Uni-Uni shaft and flange and you should be good to go...

Yes , i have been trying to keep the rubber coupling, I was considering changing but i thought i heard that you get some increase in vibrations using a unijiont . Is that correct or just a rumour i heard? Also zero maintenance with the rubber.
Is it a simple matter of getting a uni that fits or is there more involved?
    Thanks.

Removing the rubber coupling does increase vibrations. I can vouch for that.

Personally I found no additional vibrations when I switched from the OEM rear prop shaft setup to a Tom Woods double cardan replacement shaft.

It seems like swapping the rear to a uni joint may be an easy option but also it will cost a bit, different rear prop shaft, spacer, 4bolt flange $$. And i definitely don't want vibration problems.
Also i have a new rubber coupling on and another new one for spare so that should last a while, it would be a shame to waste them.
I think i am going to try to modify the pinion to fit unless someone knows that that is a bad idea ?
I asume i will have to make it exactly like the original so that i get the preload torque right.
