Td5 HD TC fitted. Now I have the 2100 rpm rattle?

    Parts removed.

    Drives lines
    Exhaust
    TC

put it all back with New TC and I hear what sound like rocks rumbling under my feet.

Does it in all gears. Park and neutral.

I pullef up on the hand brake and that doesn't reduce yhe sound.

I do have the harmonic balancer squeak sound when turning the motor off.
But that squeak has been there a year.

I didn't mark any of the driveshafts? Should I have?

If it does it in park and in neutral then it's not drive-line related.
I'd be double checking that you've correctly torqued everything back up, haven't got a bolt loose on the engine cover or something like that.

Bolt loose on the engine cover? Not that 8 mm bolt on the dust plat behind the turbo? I had to glind that off the bold head was ratchet.

I didn't think that would resonate.

Ill g clamp it and find out.

My understanding of the HDTC is that it will produce a bit more noise than a standard one, but it shouldn't be that bad.

Where did that info come from? Not having a go. Puzzled as to why a HD TC will make noise over a std unit. Big units behind some very powerful engines are no noisier than normal.

I am aware being thr Hdtc with a lower will naturally let out more load from the motor and more harmonic resonation but its doing it in park?

In part its noticeable at 1700 rpm. 22000 in gear. More right foot makes it worse (driving up hill).

I just clamped the dust cover 8 mm bolt area. No issues there.

I checked for cracks in the flexplate and the tc bolts. Looks fine and thight.

From underneath the discovery with someone reving for me I doo see the motor have torque wobble around that same rpm. How much wobble is to much I don't know.

I'm fearing that torque converter isn't balanced. Do these v8 tc modified to fit the td5 bolt up need balancing? ?

They cut off the standard bolt up base and put a thick ring plant on instead. They weld the thing on. Would the welding work course balancing issues?

I got an engine crane here now so I'm about to check the motor mounts for saging.

Pommy D2 forum, D2 Boys Club, lots more of the HD Torque Converters fitted on pommie D2s, probably because there's more of them
The site is down atm but if you sign up and have a poke around I've no doubt you'll find reference to it

I'll have a longer chat to Ashtrans now before ordering.

Descriptions of noises are often quite subjective.

If the HD TC is the cause cause of your rattle then I would pulling it. Vanes, stators and clutches in oil shouldn't rattle unless it's not put together right.
I'm happy to be corrected, but in my experience I have never had a rattling TC that was serviceable. The one I have seen that was rattling was not attached correctly.
Again IMO it should have been balanced too.

Torque converter technology's did the work on the hdtc. Apparently they have built a few now . They sounded pretty pro to me. Large workshop too.

My engine mounts seem fine. No separation. But maybe there gone hard.

I suppose a worn harmonic balancer and hard mount rubber could course this sound.

Just odd that its happend after fitting the tc.

That sounds like your exhaust may be just touching the chassis to make that sound. I had that sound when one of my engine mounts had collapsed which caused the exhaust to just make contact with the LH chassis.

    Cheers
