New Radiator- but have I made a mistake?

I have a 2000 built TD5 and needed to replace the radiator. When I received it the bottom outlet was blocked off. I rang the local supplier, who was no help at all and a mechanic who was no help at all. So in my wisdom I converted my new radiator to look like my old one and drilled out the hole. My thinking was that the newer model had a different set up and that the pipe was there to accommodate the two different models and was easily drilled. However since I have heard that the pipe is meant to be blocked and a reducer used at the fuel cooler. Having driven around for a while and temperature seems to be operating in normal range, am I causing present or future harm by doing this?

    Thanks in advance for responses.

I think the old radiators had a baffle to separate the fuel cooling part of the rad. New ones don't have the baffle and the different flow pattern needs one blocked and the other restricted. There is also a restrictor plug which is supposed to go in the fuel cooler line.
I have one sitting on the shed floor waiting for me to get motivated enough to fit it.

No problems with what you have done but LR issued a mod document. A Search will find it.
