Question How long will engine last

    Hi how are we
Hope all are well and enjoying some good 4x4 fun
Just curious as to see what km's you can get out of the TD5's

Was talking with some mates who own toyota cruisers about the matter and with both there engines ticking too and over 400, 000kms it got me thinking wonder if I will ever see that?

I know the head gaskets 'can' go round 200, 000kms mark along with the other basic things but if youre engine is well maintained and serviced what number km's you looking at before
    1 ) Head Gasket
2 ) Over all before engine goes bye bye

With the correct maintenance they should see 500000 ks
The highest ks on a vehicle that I have driven was 340000 this vehicle hadn't had its head off

my money says 250K Km to the head gasket (if a cooling system failure or injector seal fialure allows scouring of the injector wells or some other repair doesnt require pulling the head earlier)

the bottom end should go an exciting 500K Km and Im quietly confident of a lazy 1M Km

291,000 on this one. Not mine, was considering buying. The guy said both the gearbox and the transfer case were rebuilt.

I have Tdi300 with nearly 600,000km not all mine. Have had two Cruisers all starting to chew oil around 300-400,000. Friend got over 900,000 on a Troopy but oil use was bad.

Hi My TD5 inherited a 2nd hand engine at 125000km due to the old oil pump bolt failure. The 'new' engine had done 272,000 kms. The car now shows 245,000km, so by my calculations the 'new' engine has now done 392,000kms and is going strong. The replacement did get a new head gasket, metal dowels, sump gasket and big and main bearings…but the head is otherwise untouched

360,000 on the 3.5 from the Rangie when I pulled it out. It still ran fine and had good compression and no smoke, but the cam was rooted and I was starting to get low oil pressure problems. I think there are plenty around with much higher k's than that.
