When I blanked my EGR I found instructions to pull the electrical plug off the valve to let the ECU know there is no EGR function.
Stops it expecting EGR and changing the mixture.
Seemed to work for me as I got 9.96 L/100Km on a 3800 km trip over the last 3 weeks...
I'd be very interested to know where that plug is so I can check whether mine has been removed.

Jeez there's a lot of things available to you oil burner drivers to make these things get up and go!
It also helps to fit a 4 bar insert (round cylinder thing) in the fuel pressure regulator. It gets rid of the flat spot when flooring the pedal at high speed, also better pickup. I have done the egr and rear pipe as well and get just under 9l/100k on the highway when my roof rack is not fitted.
