False...
The ECU can not tell if the EGR is there or not. All it does is actuate the solenoid controlling the EGR.

You're kidding right!
That modulator is the restriction the kit removes, and the solid rubber bung is holding 1.4bar of pressure, the rubber will go and the engine won't be happy...
A full EGR kit is like $50.00
You would have been better off fitting the blanking plate between the pipe and exhaust manifold and leaving it all in place if that was your idea.
When I bought my disco, It was supposed to be done. When I look at it, They did not disconnect the wires from the solenoid. Not sure what this affects, but I just disconnected the wires from the solenoid.

Thanks Tombie, You are right, but the flat spot was there with two previous geniune land rover regulators and only disapeared
when I fitted the 4 bar unit.I had read somewhere that the later td5 (mines an update) had been fitted with a 3.6 bar regulator to help with new anti polution requirements. There was no stamp on the old one to indicate what pressure it was.I have been unable to verify this.

Im not the only to notice

Thou I have removed the egr for all the obvious reasons, a properly working EGR system smoothed on the rev range and helps low down power.
I think those you see huge gains in removal have jammed open or gummed up faulty EGR valves causing performance issues.

You miss the rest of the post...
His MAF was unserviceable and brought it back to par.
Seat of the pants (butt dyno) are often very, very wrong...
I've proven this with vehicle tunes, power runs and times...
Sometimes the soft tune feels slower but pulls harder.
EGR induces lag at low RPM, and softens idle as it introduces old exhaust into the combustion chamber. It can not reduce power by its removal.
If your vehicle actually has lost real power, then you have other factors at play.
Where can I get the kit for $50 tombie? I have seen some on eBay for about the $100 mark.
It seems to defy logic pumping hot dirty air into the air intake of a Diesel engine.
Got my centre muffler removed today. Sounds great. I was concerned it may be too loud. $50.... Bargain
This is the one I installed the other day, it's fine if you look past all the advertising bull****.

Northiam, a correctly functioning EGR will make the engine a bit less clattery, but it won't improve performance at all.
So if yours was working correctly, the only thing you would have noticed afterwards would have been a slight change of tone.
But, as you say, when they're stuffed you notice the change a lot more.
Been looking at EGR blanking kits and find there are two common types. The first being a blanking plate around $15 and the second being an alloy pipe and a blanking plate around $50. So whats the difference if they do the same thing? Or am I way off the mark assuming they do the same thing?
