    Banjo washers which way around

    Time to fix the leaking Banjo washers for the oil feed to the turbo on my TD5. The old washers are just flat copper. These brand new ones in a LR bag are fully tricked up double washers that obviously compress the space between when tightened up. One side of the double unit is a little smaller diameter that the other side; can't see that it will make any difference which side goes where but will put it out there to those in the know to ask if there is a right side or not?

    Just fitted some a few days ago. I also noticed the slight size difference to each side of the new washers but decided that it was not significient enough to matter.
    I felt that the important aspect when refitting was to apply the correct torque (25Nm) to the banjo bolt.

    It wont make a lot of difference which way round you fit them.

    Would have expected as much but curious as to what the design is all about. In the end fitted them in a random manner but all seem dry.

    With any washer there will be one side with a sharper edge then the other side from where the punch has punched it out of the sheet and one side with a rounder edge.
    The rounder edge should go to the bottom or the material surface you bolting to/up with the sharper edge to the bolt this gives a better torque loading and less likely to damge the surface
