MY REVERSE CAMERA INSTALL ON D2 WITH PICS

For years I've wanted to fit a camera behind my D2, I found narrow trailers are invisible when reversing at the tip, Backing an empty boat trailer over angled and drop down ramps and me having limited head turning ability (due to a fused spine) makes it a bit more difficult.
I didn't like the idea of those clip over the rear vision display units and don't like stuff stuck onto the dashboard so went this way.

After playing with the monitor I thought the panel where the electric sunroof switches would be was a good location.
I held the monitor of the cheap Repco 4.5" camera and monitor kit in place and decided it would work. The monitor is curved at the back and had a mounting foot.
I found that removing the plastic trim plug where the sun roof switches would go ( if I had a sunroof ) the monitor would fit inside with it's curved back and the outside dimensions of the monitor over hung the hole by a bit.

    Monitor fitting idea.

Now not wanting to destroy the upper console and attach the monitor with something that will leave holes etc, I donned on the idea of using Velcro. It would be strong and hold fast.
So strips of self adhesive velcro where pasted to under side of monitor and the panel opening after the trim plug was removed.

The wiring was then hidden under the roof trim edges and continued to the rear of the Disco under the roof trim.
The aux power to power the monitor came by connecting it to the cigarette lighter wiring, so key on would power the monitor.

The camera install was a bit of umming and arring, I would love to have a camera at the tow ball, so hooking up a trailer would be easy. Decided to mount it higher so it would give more spread of vision on advise of one of my customers, so i made up a bracket out of 1mm flat Aluminum bar and moulded it to the rear body contours, etched primed it and painted it matt black and fitted with pop rivets.
Wiring from camera hidden under rubber trim and fed it to the reverse light wiring behind the rear pillar lights.

    Camera mounted.

Velcro, it has other uses than on gloves, it's strong enough to fit accessories.!

    Regards,
    Mario

Nice job on the camera/monitor instal

Is that only a 4.5" monitor? I take it the camera is about 1.5" diam.

    Good job...

I smiled a bit too... "I didn't want to cut holes in my trim" - But i dont mind drilling holes through the outer skin
