Radiator Flush - water or cleaner?

I am about to do a radiator flush and will run a number of clean loads water through it before I refill with coolant.

Does anyone use the commercial radiator cleaner with one of the loads of fresh water? Or is the chemical bad for the aluminum parts?

    Hi,

I'm no expert but I did my radiator this weekend.. In anticipation I bought a chemical cleaner.

I did some more research before I bit the bullet and got the tools out..

In the end I DIDN'T use it I got the feeling that I was tempting fate as it is not guaranteed to be able to get it ALL out of the system once you have introduced it. Could have saved myself $22

Any way that's what I did.

    Cheers

Unless it is a really neglected system with lots of grunge and rust and corrosion ( Bad Bad Bad boy for letting it get that way! ) A cleaner is not really needed. Flush with clean water until it runs clean, Blknight has a tutorial on here somewhere.

The coolant is not bad at all, but getting ready for a decent drive and was just contemplating using the chemical cleaner.
Just making sure my cooling system is up to scratch, and if it was worth the effort would definately splash out the extra few bucks to get the cleaner if it meant a better result.
