    D2 Clear Coat

    Hi,

After spending thousands of dollars on the engine I am now in the mood to stop my D2 from looking like land fill.

So yesterday went over it with a clay bar. Worked great.

Got all the overspray from the shipyard where I had my Shark Cat and knocked all kinds of rubbish off the paint.

And now I'm wondering if the D2 has a clear coat.

Reason being I want to try to cut some of the scratches and flying fox **** marks out of the paint work with cut and polish but I don't want to wreck any clear coat!

Any advice on cutting the paintwork is also much appreciated. Remarkable how bad it can be when you really start to care about it huh!

    Cheers

    Ian.

    What colour is it?
Metallics have a clear coat, most solid colours don't.

Look at using something like meguiar's ultimate compound, rather than cut and polish. Safe on clear coat.

If you're doing it by hand, I have used Meguires Scratch X - it removed (not deep) scratches (from shrubs etc) in the clear coat on my metallic paint D2 very well. Can't tell where they were.

It is a super fine polishing compound that leaves a nice polished finish.

If you have access to a proper machine polisher you can use a lambswool polishing pad with a machine grade polishing compound like 3M™ Perfect-it™ EX Rubbing Compound. Very fast, but you need a bit of practice to use this type of machine as you can cut through the clear coat more easily.

By hand will be slower but safe. If the droppings have damaged the paintwork though, these may not be able to be removed.

    Good luck,

    Simon

I'm not sure if it's metalic.... It's that dark royal blue colour.....

Anyway I accidentally bought Maguires Ultimate so I'll have a go at a spot nobody sees and see what that's like.

Some of the flying fox turds have burnt through to the undercoat... you can see it in the little swirls dissolved pout of the paintwork. I will be leaving those well alone.

About eight hundred people have slammed their doors into the Landy over the years so I'll be trying my famous DIY paintless scratch removal technique perfected over several decades of abusing hire cars and not wanting to pay the insurance.

    Thanks all for the advice.

    Cheers

If it is Oslo Blue like mine it is metallic with clear coat.
When I can be fussed I am going to paint my roof silver and maybe the bonnet, as the bonnet has lots of flying fox **** marks.

I have found 12g no6 to work very well in removing the turds from flying foxes!
