    Nasty misfire on TD5

    Hi Giys

My TD has developed a nasty miss that appears to be on one cylinder. Also have noticed a slight turbo whistle. Miss is most apparent at low revs and worse when cold and when accelerating, it seems to improve with revs. Did 300 k's yesterday with the prob and no worse today. Managed to still cruise comfortably at about 2200 but lacked power for overtaking.

I am abit of a technocluts but was thinking valve or head gasket -any ideas?

Check for oil in the red plug on the ECU.
The only time mine has dropped a cylinder was on a seriously cold start, and I think it dropped more than a few cylinders

My advice is get it seen to asap. Mine started like that and now the engine is totally knackered. Granted I drove it for a while ignoring the issue.

    SITEC and Gus107

After inspecting the ECU which was very clean (i had the injector harness replaced about 6 months ago) i decided to contact SITEC who lives nearby - what great guys! - They came around and had a look for me and it seems i may have an injector problem. Was great talking to these blokes - crash course in what I may be up for by owning a Disco - I still love it though! Also eyeballed SITECS 101 - very cool

Thing that seemes different between my issue and the misfire issues dicussed previously on this site is that mine is constant and doesn't cause the engine to cut-out.

Did you have the codes read?
Could be the harness, dud injector or a whole host of things
I'm down south and have a nanocom if you need help, although there is probably someone closer - that is if you haven't read them already

Mine had a similar problem. At 100km/h on flat ground I would have hardly known only for water temp running high (only 95) on the MADMAN gauge.

The first and second time I fixed it I just unplugged and plugged in each injectior. The third I bent the connectors to make better connection then the fourth. I ordered a new harness and tappet gasket. I got the wrong gasket but the harness has fixed the problem. There was no oil in the old loom at all and I have kept it as a spare in my spares kit.

There were no faults when checked with Nanocom but the injector balance on one injector was all over the place. Most were running +/- 1 maybe 2 but one was upto 20.

    Happy Days.

Joel, were those injector imbalances at idle or under load?

I haven't done a code read but will be taking it to PCB next week.

Temp is good at all revs and i can still pull 120kmh so it would seem that i am stil getting something out of the faulty cylinder

I stuck mine on a lynx computer and the cylinder balances were all close except number three, which was a few out, however IIRC it's the balance at idle that's the key issue.
