    Accessing blower filter

I just got an '01 Disco II. It had been sitting (some of the time wide open) for a year or so and there are a lot of water damage/mold issues I'm addressing. Right now, I'm trying to get to the blower under the glove box. So far, I took out the glove box and kick panel, and removed the four large bolts, but I can still see where it is attached with screws. I need to at least get to what looks like a filter because it's jammed up with mold/crap (see picture). Before I proceed to a point of no return, I want to have some clue of what I need to do. Anyone had any luck with this? Thanks in advance.

    Leaves

    Here's a link to what's involved.
It LHD but you will get the idea.

Disco 2 chirpy blower motor fix - Discovery Forum - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

Make sure the foam filter at the rear of the bonnet is in place
that's what's supposed to catch the leaves.

The foam is more than likely in the fan to
    have a good poke about
you can find allsorts in the ducting which can smell.

Thanks, I had used that to get the blower out (nice and packed with leaves). But this filter is above that and I can't see how to get it out.

Here is a diagram of the nasty little piece I'm looking to replace:

From memory that is not a filter.

It is the 'recycle' flap, which just has foam glued to it.

The only filter is the foam strip that sits below the windscreen.

Thanks, any chance you remember how to get it out so I can clean/replace it?

No idea how to remove it.

But the foam is there to limit air noise over the flap when in 'recycle' mode, and to help seal.

Option 1 - Scrape manky foam off and leave as is.
Option 2 - As above but restick new foam (Just use generic foam) onto flap.
Option 3 - Buy complete fan motor box.

Thanks, you've been a tremendous help. One last (hopefully) question: I've been trying to figure out/find documentation for how to remove the fan motor box with no luck. Do you know of any resources that would explain where/how it's attached? Again thanks a lot!

From memory it comes out as one piece and then you disassemble.

    Not envying that task

Yes , remove HVAC as a complete assembly then disassemble. My understanding is it will come apart in 2 halves? then you can access the radiator and AC core. If other heater assemblies are anything to go by they appear to be the first item installed on the bare chassis!

Core can be done w/out removal if you're keen, or you pull the dash to remove the unit to do the core but once the dash is removed you can access the core so you don't need to remove the unit.

All the needed to do was put it 90 degrees the other way and it would pull out on the same angle as the lower dash instead of across it.
