I think you will have to release the auto oil pipe. I bet the quick release fitting is just the width of the tab in the slot! But you are on the right track according to the RAVE.

Whats the trick to separating the auto oil cooler from the radiator? There was a screw on the drivers side which I have undone and managed to push the auto cooler down and free on that side, but the passenger side seems to have a tab/slot system which can't easily be separated due to the oil cooler line fouling on the radiator?

I ended up doing this, which I really didn't want to as I didn't want to risk dirt or water getting into the auto oil system. On the plus side no auto oil came out when disconnected (hopefully because all the oil is at the bottom of the sump rather than because there is no oil in there...). With some jiggling afterwards it came free. I think I did bend the pipe slightly as well.
Very goodI have noticed its a neat fit! Check the oil cooler hose while ya there? give it a twist and see if its loose! easy while you got the thing stripped down
cheers scott
If you think you bent the pipe, have a close look at where the pipe joins the cooler as they crack very easy.
