Disco TD5 no power
Hi guys. I`m new to this so bare with me please.
I`ve had a Disco 2 TD5 for a few months now. I`ts always seemed a bit lethargic but, having now driven other TD5s, I am sure that there is something wrong.
It is very slow on take off and going up any long gradient is hard work.
I have had it serviced at a land rover specialist and they can`t find anything wrong with it. They put it on the diagnostic tool thing and they couldn`t find anything wrong.
The only thing that they suggested might be the cause is a head gasket repair that was done by the previous owner.
It`s been reliable whilst I`ve had it but the lack of power is sometimes bordering on the dangerous.
Any help would be much appreciated

HI, I have exactly the same issue. Have tested all the usual suspects and am now thinking the timing may be a little out. Am building up the courage and knowledge to check this... good luck.

A couple of suspects
If you have a cat remove at manifold and retry if blocked
it will restrict your power.
Get fuel pump pressure output tested if you are not getting
4bar at full load you need a pump.
Neither of above faults will show on a tester but are pretty
common.

Unplug mass air flow meter and if it is noticeably better it may be.faulty

A couple of things.
-Check your inter cooler hoses are secured nice and tight and not letting boost escape. You will see a trace of oil if leaking.
-Check your turbo is working and providing the correct boost pressure at the inlet manifold (Nanocom or boost gauge)
-Check and clean the MAP sensor and Air Flow Meter.
-Check for leaks at exhaust manifolds and turbo to manifold gasket.
-Also if its an auto, it helps to get to learn how to use the correct gear and lock-up points on inclines.. Might also help to perform the stall test to rule out the converter.
Doing all of the above and removing the EGR valve brought ours back to life. It's still no powerhouse but better then it was.
