Wanting to buy D2 TD5 Auto

My name is landroverguru and it has been 9 years since i last had a Land Rover......

Looks like I will be falling off the wagon soon and would like some opinion on what is reasonable to pay for a D2 TD5 Auto with less than 200 000kms.

These catch my interest what do you think they are realistically worth?

2001 Land Rover Discovery II SE 02MY

    Would appreciate your input.

    Cheers LRG

    Hi Bud
In my opinion you would be better of with the white D2 with the updated lights because it has the CDL in the transfer box.

    Price is good to

I second that Steve but reading the detail on the other one it has cdl as well. I would rather one that hadn't needed a new engine with low kms but I would also find one with ACE. White one has high spec interior so might have ACE. Love my leather steering wheel same as white one

The one with the new engine provided it was a crate long motmot or otherwise a reputable rebuilder with all receipts etc. need to know what the rst of the truck has done kilometer wise. Also you can throw 5 way leather electrics etc at it very cheaply. Cheers

    Thanks Guys,

The one with the new engine has 200 000kms on it and has a new crate motor fitted by Land Rover in Townsville.

The original motor cracked the crankshaft through one of the journals.

I am keen for one with ACE also, but not sure it the ACE is prone to expensive repairs or not?

    Your help is appreciated.

    Cheers LRG

Just because someone has fitted update lights to a 2001 model does not mean that they have fitted a diff lock as well.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Mate the vast majority of D2's here did not have ACE. With bilstein or similiar suspension they handle and ride beautifully. They handle far better from the factory (with factory suspension) than Land Cruisers, Patrols etc of the same years. Those with ACE clearly are great round corners, but I dont personally think there is much in it especially with good quality single wall shocks that react so quickly etc. The chances of finding an ACE equipped vehicle that ticks all the other (more important) boxes are very low...

Its a buyers market at the moment that's for sure.

I have seen TD5 discos for as low as 4500 with no known faults. Having said that I am sure they will have some.15 yo vehicle with kms over 250k kms is bound to have something wrong, whatever the brand.

Did you end up buying something?

I did end up getting the one with the new engine.

Really happy with it, drove it back from Brisbane to Townsville.

Have been fixing (playing with) back lights, cleaning aircon and climate control fans etc. etc. etc.

Lots of bits I am planning to do or clean up in the coming months.

Will drive it when I get some time......
