    Gearbox clunk!

Hi all, just drove into work this morning (after a weekend of the car sitting idle) and noticed a reasonably loud clunk when changing from drive to reverse. I repeated a few times with similar results. The auto was serviced around 2k ago so assume the oil level is fine but I will check tonight anyways.
    Any thoughts??

As Outback says. Check particularly the U-joints on the front prop shaft.

Now I may be wrong, but if the car isnt moving, and the clunk occurs while changing between D and R. The drive shafts would just be sitting there doing nothing. How are they to make a noise?

each time you move between drive and reverse you take up the freeplay in the driveline

And if that free play is in a U-joint, an early, possibly catastrophic, failure is quite possible.

Got underneath this morning. Bit of play in the joint, not much though, but unsure of how much is too much. Going to get it checked this arvo. Noticed a little squeak as well today, Have done a little reading and believe this may be a "tell tale" sign?

Diagnosis, front prop shaft was just about to let go from the joint.
Getting it replaced with the Les Richmond heavy duty prop shaft
