    Lucky Escape Today

    Hi Folks,

Just finished a 30klm run and parked in the V8. Noticed a puddle under the car were it should not be.

Crawled under and my heart sank when I saw green fluid dripping from the back of the engine! I have changed all hoses in the last 12 months so thought the worst, something else had given way.

Looked from the top to see Coolant running down one rocker cover and then saw a tiny hose from the throttle body spewing out the green stuff.

What joy I felt........I can fix that!

Anyway this is what gave and could have cost me the engine if I'd been on a longer trip:

Small to change but it has one of those poxy spring clips hidden behind the A/C compressor so out that came:

Had a replacement hose in my bits box so all fixed in under two hours (which would of been 5 minutes if not for the hidden clip).

If it was my wife driving I think she'd never if noticed, and why should she. It could of ended in a very different way. All for a $2 bit of pipe.

    Cheers Jerry

So did I get lucky, I keep hearing about to hose, went and had a look and I don't have one. I do have one from the inlet manifold returning to the cool and header tank.

Yes, just bypass the throttle body and attach it straight to the expansion tank.

I use the RedArc coolant level monitor which senses coolant level in the reservour. I've tripped it a couple of times.

So it runs from the inlet to the TB and then the header tank? I don't even have the nipples on the TB.

Could you just eliminate the hose all together? I welded a screw on fitting to the manifold (could cap it) and plug the tank (from the inside so pressure forces it sealed).

Not really a good idea to plug this hose, it's there for a good reason. A simpler method is to replace the OEM plastic rubbish with 8mm heater hose straight from the engine to the header tank. One of the very first things I do before significant work under the bonnet of a D2 V8 is to flex the offending plastic line between my fingers. If it snaps (as they usually do) it gets a new length of hose before doing anything else.
